An oversized landscape over the fireplace is what lets this room carry grandiose ceilings without your eye ping-ponging around them. Landscapes are one of the calmest things a brain can look at — and when the painting echoes what's outside the glass, your eye reads the art and the view as one scene. The room borrows calm from its own windows.

That was the whole play in Painted Peak. Modern mountain rooms with ceilings this tall need something big up high, but the windows had to stay the main event. So the art mimics the landscape outside, and the tall patterned curtains pull the artwork line higher up the wall — pattern doing work that paint can't.

At seating height: our Wilhelm Sofa and the Linder Lounge Chair in our Run Wyld Ruins Leather, gathered around the Villum Coffee Table, with the Calle Console Table on the wall carrying a large antique water-pot lamp and a Tamegroute bowl. The curtain pattern repeats in miniature in the antique distressed rug — same tones, similar small pattern — so the layers read as one collected room instead of five ideas.
