INSPIRATION : THE LAYERED RUG LOOK
Another day, another #loveyourhouseforless trick! Rugs can be one of the most expensive pieces to buy in a space and for that reason people often buy a smaller rug, but then it is too small for the space. Every designer's nightmare and I swear almost every homeowner does it. (We'll go into proper rug sizing for your room another time!)
If you're shaking your head thinking "shtt, is she talking to me?"..... don't worry. I have a solution for you.
LAYER IT UP!
One of the easiest ways to get a top-dollar look for less is to layer your rugs. For the top rug, be sure to go all out and choose one you truly love. Make it a fun pattern or texture and ensure it's high quality as this is the one that will show the most wear and tear. But then get the larger/bottom rug in a more affordable cotton or sisal/jute. These are very inexpensive (an 8x10 should only run you between $100-200 USD). Yeah! Suddenly you're no longer committing a design no-no with an ill-sized rug, AND you saved yourself some mega cash. Win-win!
Here's a bunch of inspiration to show you how amazing a room looks with layered rugs.
Mega love for this one with its bold pattern on top with a sisal or jute rug underneath.

Layering a vintage rug with a hide is one of my favorites! So much so that I have it in my own office.

Don't be afraid to change directions! This will usually only work if the rugs are of the same color, though. So be careful with this technique.

Even though the top run in this next inspiration pic is a LOT smaller, it still works as the overall aesthetic in the room us super eclectic. This one is slightly harder to pull off though, so be careful on this one, too.
